Slugs and moths

We’ve had our first few challenges with our petite green house. We purchased a greenhouse from Kogan 6x3m and loosened the soil with a plough.

We planted broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, tomatoes, capsicum, onions, shallots and some lettuce and spinach to start. It flourished and grew well but the moths started water everything green. I was trying to capture them by hand but I couldn’t keep up. I read somewhere about mint keeping them away, so I planted some in there and it seemed to work.

Now I have a slug issue eating the cauliflower and destroying them and making them go brown. I was hand capturing them too and have now sprayed an organic copper spray at the stems of the plants. Let’s hope this helps as all I want is healthy, yummy, delicious and pretty vegetables to eat fresh from the garden.

Strangest thing is that we had to thin the broccoli and cauliflower at the start as we planted to many seeds together in each hole created many to take off in clumps. This would restrict the veggies from growing to their full capacity.

We took all the extra ones and planted them in loose soil strip in the open air. Not one bug, slug or moth has touched them yet. Let’s hope this continues.
